The Tentacle-Like Megal opolis. The City of the Globalization in Movies

Keywords: Blade Runner, surveillance technology, imaginary, urban entrepreneurialism, tech-noir, globalization

Abstract

During the last decades, years of cultural postmodernism and politic and economic late capitalism, it has been explored new ways to represent the city of the globalization in the movies. For this reason, the films will serve as an illustration of the explanation, a starting point. The way that a society orders spaces shows a lot of that culture and how it sees itself; even more if they are imaginary places, eloquent consequences of their desires. It will be analyzed how movies have created an imaginary about the urban. It will be pointed out the influence of Blade Runner, high-tech style, cultural pastiche, using the cities of East Asian countries as a model, and the power of the mafias, parallel to the overexposure to surveillance technology.
