Peppermint Frappé (1967): The Symbolic Montage of the Sexual Drive in Carlos Saura´s Cinema
Abstract
This article analyzes the representation of desire in Peppermint Frappé (Peppermint Frappé, Carlos Saura, 1967) in comparison with both other paradigmatic titles of classic cinema and of this same filmmaker and identifies a metaphorical cinema and a symbolism that lays the foundations of a style of sexual drive recognizable throughout his later sixties and seventies filmography. The hypothesis of this research states that director´s manipulation in Peppermint Frappé both in the mise en scène and in the editing room is motivated not only by the artistic goal of the author but also to avoid censorship complains.
