Screen Society in Black Mirror: Exploring the Role and Impact of Screens in a Dystopian Technological Society

Keywords: Black Mirror, dystopia, screen, society, television, metaverse

Abstract

The digitisation of social and personal communications over the last few decades has brought us into an unknown terrain that is progressing at an unprecedented speed. The television series Black Mirror allows us to reflect on the repercussions of this technological transformation on society and personal relationships. Through textual and content analysis of the 5 seasons broadcast so far, we can establish the most common patterns that have been represented in the series, reflecting the transformation from a society grouped around the television screen to a society that uses individual screens as a tool for control and access to personal and social relationships.
