“La ciudad de la fruta” by Leyla Selman: Representing Trauma
Abstract
The paper proposes to research in how the concept of trauma manifests in the play La ciudad de la fruta by the Chilean playwright Leyla Selman that delves into her personal memory marked by the sexual abuses that she endured as a child by her grandfather and three of her uncles. Specifically, it will inquiry in two questions: to what extent it is possible to represent trauma and which dramatic and theatrical mechanisms are used to do it.
