Babies challenge the city: an ethnography on the move in Imperatriz/Maranhão
Abstract
This article presents an ethnography focused on the movement of babies through public spaces in Imperatriz, Maranhão, aiming to understand how these subjects appropriate the city's public squares. We selected three squares and the Beira Rio area for research, employing mobile ethnography and floating observation. The study sought to identify the caregivers of the babies, the available spaces in the squares, the suitability of the infrastructure for babies, and the objects that facilitate their mobility. Furthermore, we explored methodological challenges related to approaching the babies, ensuring field access, communicating with preverbal subjects, and the dynamics between babies and their caregivers.
