Our world: experiences with migrant-foreign children

Abstract

This is a brief account of important moments in our lives when together – adults and children – we composed narratives creating a digital book about our world. The practices are part of the doctoral research in Geography at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Brazil. The approximations situate the regional context, evidencing the expressive increase of the recent migratory movement, especially referring to the number of enrollments of foreign migrant children in the public education network. We rely on the studies of Vigotski, Barros and Lopes, as a theoretical perspective that understands space as contemporary, heterogeneous and multiple, where children who came, and continue to come to Brazil, produce culture from the social level. This work aims to share some fragments of narratives made with children about spatial, linguistic and cultural experiences. We present some understandings of children about events in our world. We chose to name detours, the invitations that children present to us and flee from linearity and what is pre-established, allowing us to learn from our incompleteness.
