Behaviors about sexting in Mexican adolescents of high school
Abstract
Today, there is an emerging scenario of digital revolution, in which there are risks and opportunities for society, within the risks are the spread of sexual intimacy (sexting). In Latin America, Mexico ranks first in this behavior. Teenagers are more vulnerable to the negative consequences of sexting. The general objective of the present investigation was to determine the behaviors about sexting in mexican adolescents of high school of the south of Veracruz. A quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was 1060 adolescents, the sample comprised 543. The participants were available students who agreed to collaborate. The Sexting Behavior Scale (SBS) was applied (Chacon, et al., 2016). For the analysis, SPSS 25 was used. In results, 82.1% of adolescents agreed to be aware of the concept of sexting. The prevalence of sexting at some time in life was 44.6% of participants who stated that they carried out this practice; junior high school students have a higher percentage with 52.2%. In the Sexting Behavior Scale, the item with the highest percentage in frequently (daily) was 1 “How often have you received text messages with suggestive or sexual content on your mobile?” with 3.3%. The findings suggest a study phenomenon that is currently prevalent, with which adolescents are at risk of not exercising their rights to privacy and development.
