Call for papers 2025 Volume 9(2) Publication: second semester of 2025
Children facing health and illness
Deadline for article submissions: August 15, 2025
Childhood and adolescence are critical stages for a healthy life from the perspective of the human life cycle. Conceived as a right, the signatory States of the Convention on the Rights of the Child are committed to ensuring the highest possible level of health and services for the treatment of diseases. In line with this commitment, both states and international organizations dedicate significant efforts to promoting and ensuring the health of the child and adolescent population. Recognizing children and adolescents as active agents in all aspects of their lives leads to the need for their own conceptions, representations, attitudes, and experiences regarding health and illness to be heard and considered in decision-making, both at the individual and general levels. This is not always the case, which is why childhood research and studies have an important role to play in this regard. Therefore, this monograph from Sociedad e Infancias invites the submission of research papers, essays, programs, or evaluations in which children's participation is visible and effective, addressing topics such as:
- Social and cultural contexts of children's illness experiences.
- Use of social media to provide inspiring and credible first-person testimonies by the children themselves.
- Ways in which children transform and reframe illness, turning diagnostic categories into cultural categories.
- Meanings of their expressions of discomfort without falling into the pathologization of everyday problems.
- Right to information about their health and informed consent.
- Children and adolescents as community health agents.
- Attitudes toward the care they receive and recognition of the care they provide to other sick or dependent individuals.
