Artistic and citizenship education in the initial training of primary school teachers. A case study for developing critical, creative and social thinking through 'Malamente'
Abstract
The present theoretical study focuses on today’s unmistakable discrepancy between the information, communication and leisure systems of youth, that are mostly virtual systems, and the conceptual, methodological and experiential discourses emanating from school. To this end, we sought to understand the impact of social networks on youth, how they affect the configuration of their identities and the need to generate educational alternatives capable of developing an essentially critical and active audiovisual literacy. After describing the theoretical framework, a case study within the Primary Education Degree of the University of Malaga is presented in relation to the Malamente clip of the singer Rosalía.The study proposes an analysis instrument based on categorising of social issues. Using this instrument, students deconstruct the videoclip and produce audiovisual and alternative narratives in order to develop critical, creative and social thinking. Therefore, we studied the phenomenological characteristics of this process more in depth and thus begin to envision the real impact of a project that conjugates educational and communication systems in teacher training. This dual deconstructive and creative process experienced by groups of students using media culture has generated new opportunities for educational experience of teachers in training. In this way, it would be possible the future extrapolation of this project.
