Fiodor Chaliapin (1873-1938). The artist who marked a referent in lyric theatres at the Gran Teatro del Liceo. Review of time line and impactct in the 150th anniversary of his birth
Abstract
Fiodor Chaliapin made his debut at the Gran Teatro del Liceo at Barcelona in 1927 with his interpretation of Boris Godunov. From then on and until 1933, when he visited Barcelona for the last time, he performed there roles such as Mephistopheles, Ivan the terrible or Don Quixote. This study examines the impact generated by Chaliapin’s work in Spain, aspects of his interpretative reforms, and his ways of approaching the operatic scene. Moreover, it reflects on its relationship with the country and with certain Spanish artists, analyzes his artistic method and the ways of its transmission.
