Between Word and Image. The Miracles of St. James the Greater

Keywords: Saint James the Greater, iconography, pilgrimage, miracles

Abstract

The Book of the Miracles of Saint James was carefully constructed and reiterates central themes throughout the Codex: the role of the Saint along pilgrimage routes, the protection of all who implore him, the liberation of prisoners, and solidarity. Some miracles have been widely depicted, while others, though important, have not enjoyed the same iconographic success.
