Nineteenth-century forms of lexicographical representation: the DRAE 1884 and the Diccionario de peruanismos. Ensayo filológico (1883), by Juan de Arona
Abstract
Within the framework of the project Modelo de una edición digital e hipertextual del DRAE 1884. La presencia de América en el diccionario, we compare the lexicographical practice of the DRAE 1884 with the Diccionario de peruanismos. Ensayo filológico (1883) by Juan de Arona, analysing examples of the letter A. We focus on the organisation of lexicographical articles, inspired to some extent by Wiegand’s Theory of dictionary form, from which we take the conceptions of textual condensation and hierarchical microstructure. This analysis allows us to revalidate the lexicographical concept of each work and contribute to the study of the history of lexicographical practice in the Spanish language.
