Subordination and coordination: from syntax to discourse
Abstract
Our interest is focused on that area in which sentence syntax gives way to discourse, and on the role played by subordination (hierarchical) and coordination (non-hierarchical) relations. Although the existence of parallels and interferences between the two planes cannot be denied, the need to keep them separate is emphasized, since different units are combined by means of relations that are not exactly equivalent.
