Communication and norm: the application of the modernization of the spanish orthographic system in the Malaga press of the nineteenth century
Abstract
Spanish ortography in the 19th century lived a time of intense debates and chages in relation to he standardization and regulation of wirting. During this period, numerous efforts are carried out to establish clear and uniform norms for the correct writing of the Spanish language and the press becomes a special allí for its dissemination. In this article, the linguistic situations is contextualized, a description of the situation of the press in general and particular is made, and the main changes made to Spanish orthography in tthe 19th century are analyzed, highlighting the most important regulations and the influences they had, in the nineteenth-century press of the city of Malaga, with the purpose of verifying the degree of achievement of the same and to know, thus, the knowledge of the orthographic norms that the local publishers and printers had.
