MOBA Lexicon: Between Jargon and Specialized Language
Abstract
This article analyzes the lexicon of MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) video games, focusing particularly on League of Legends. The research explores whether the language used by players during matches can be classified as digital jargon or as a specialized discourse. To this end, a written and oral corpus exceeding 250,000 words has been compiled, which includes not only recordings of actual matches but also related discursive genres such as forums, blogs, and audiovisual guides. This methodological approach allows for the observation of the degree of specialization in the interaction during these video game matches, as well as the analysis of the expansion and use of this specific vocabulary within the player community in other contexts.
