Vox’s Twitter discourse on the arrival of immigrants in Ceuta: an approach from framing theory
Abstract
This study analyzes the linguistic features of the discourse on Twitter/X from Vox (@vox_es) and its president, Santiago Abascal (@Santi_abascal), regarding the mass arrival of immigrants to Ceuta in May 2021. The corpus consists of tweets published by both accounts between May 17 and 23, 2021, which reference this event. The main objective is to describe how this political party conceptualised the migration episode, focusing on the interpretative frames that dominate the tweets. Methodologically, the study begins with a quantitative analysis using corpus linguistics tools to identify the most frequent terms in the discourse. Based on this initial analysis, a qualitative lexical study will be conducted through framing theory, allowing for a deeper understanding of how the party conceptualized the event.
