Relative pronoun displacement in Spanish: description from a macro-syntax perspective
Abstract
This paper considers the phenomena of pronoun displacement in relative sentences in Spanish and the relation between these types of constructions and informational texts and argumentative texts. The description considers the contributions of the macro-syntax perspective. Despite the fact that those structures have been analyzed in different studies, actually that kind of analysis can provide a more complete description of the phenomenon. After introducing some researches of macro-syntax in Spanish and many aspects of relative pronouns, the following section presents a description that shows how in most cases the structures with pronoun displacement are used with a pragmatic function: a speaker wishes to convey that something that was told is not valid. In some occasions, the construction operates on some arguments.
