Ideology and discourse on feminists in the opinion columns of Amando de Miguel
Abstract
This paper analyses Amando de Miguel’s discourse on feminism and feminists in 41opinion columns published in the newspaper Libertad Digital from 2000 to 2021. The sample has been extracted from the DISMUPREN project database. The aim is to determine the ideological positioning of the columnist in relation to feminists and to analyse the evaluations and arguments used in the construction of his discourse. The research questions from which we start are what ideologemes underpin the discourse and what linguistic and rhetorical mechanisms it relies on. For the analysis of the corpus we have followed the theoretical analytical framework of Discourse Analysis, which has allowed us to answer the research questions posed and to show how Amando de Miguel systematically makes a negative representation of feminists, as a group that he has clearly confronted ideologically.
