Ángel López García-Molins: A committed linguist and humanist
Abstract
This study aims to reflect on the function of linguistics and the researchers of language based on the academic experience of Ángel López García-Molins (ALG-M). His approach to living his profession provides a point of reference to explain the current role of the linguist and to encourage and inspire a future generation of experts in the field. To this end, we first gathered the publications by and about ALG-M. Second, we classified, described and explained a selection of comments about the role of linguists and humanists. To maintain objectivity, the texts and experts are allowed to speak for themselves. This article begins with a brief introduction, which is followed by an account of the main qualities of this well-known, well-appreciated, and well-beloved linguist. In the next section, we will reflect on his work as a humanist, and defend, among other things, a harmonious plurilingualism and the humanities, and to add value, his work as a columnist, editor and blogger. The article will end with brief conclusions.
