China's minority languages: considerations from the ecolinguistic perspective
Abstract
Globalization brings a process of hurried changes in our modern civilization, among which a good number of minority languages in the world are in danger of disappearing or already considered extinct, indicating a serious threat to linguistic diversity. Considering these circumstances, in this article we analyze these surviving minority languages in China from a new perspective: ecolinguistics. With the analysis of the relationship between linguistic diversity and biodiversity as well as the general overview of minority languages in China and their ecological situations, we emphasize the importance and necessity of linguistic diversity, with a series of proposals for the protection and improvement of the linguistic ecology in China.
