Syntactic and semantic analysis of the Spanish verb "condenar"
Abstract
This article addresses the syntactic and semantic properties of the verb condenar. First, we will put forward a brief lexicographical study and we will suggest a syntactic framework for condenar according to the different kinds of arguments the verb selects. Secondly, the empirical study consists of two parts: on the one hand, the variety of structures with condenar will be examined and, on the other hand, we will focus on the use of the past participle condenado in headlines of the Spanish newspaper El País. In this part special attention will be paid to absolute small clauses and participial noun phrases with a stative predicate.Downloads
