Neological formation procedures in present fashion
Abstract
Fashion is characterized by constantly changing trends and imposing temporary clothing that must be named in a language that adapts to these changes. This research studies the neologisms used to name current women's clothing. To carry out this study, a descriptive and interpretive analysis is made of the corpus consisting of words extracted from magazines and websites of commercial groups that are Spanish brands and from the 2023 to 2025 seasons. The words analyzed are organized according to the neological formation processes that have been collected, that is, form neologisms, borrowings, and semantic neologisms. The data studied demonstrate that there is a high productivity of foreign words that are combined with formal vernacular mechanisms, such as prefixation and syntagmatic composition. In short, the changing language has a specific terminology that, in many cases, employs neological procedures, mainly crude anglicisms that come from the fashionable export centers.
