Giorgio Bassani, an «einaudito» author. Reception and censorship during the Francoism
Abstract
This article analyses the mechanisms of reception of Giorgio Bassani in Spain, during the Francoism. Using a hybrid methodological approach, based on a philological and comparative study, this text relies on a solid documentary and unpublished support from different archives. Likewise, we will focus the analysis on the processes of textual transmissions, taking into account the influence of censorship as a specific element of linguistic and cultural interference, with the intention of investigating how the literary production of Bassani has influenced the reference context. Starting from a supranational perspective, we will carry out an analysis of the Bassanian work along with a work of reconstruction of the Spanish political and cultural context, with the intention of separating Bassani’s literary operation from its national contingency and focus our study on aspects of his poetics capable of transferring and re-signifying themselves within a foreign cultural context.
