The conceptual framework of arts education. A look from the new realism
Abstract
This article analyses the philosophical position of the new realism. Especially, starting from the proposals of the philosopher Markus Gabriel, about the impact of his ideas in the construction of the conceptual and thinking framework of arts education and its practices. It synthesises an explanation of the current of new realism, as an alternative to materialism, idealism and postmodern constructivism. It takes a brief critical look at some of its proposals, focusing exclusively on those aspects that have a significant impact on the contemporary conceptual development of arts education. The aim is to establish a basis of thought that allows a new development and definition of arts education, convinced of the need to theorise to consolidate and strengthen the discipline and its practices and research. Finally, it establishes the need to consolidate an arts education based on its own objective reality and on the recognition of art as an autonomous field of meaning on which the function of the discipline should be exclusively focused.
