Is there landscape behind the window? New forms of representation and algorithmic expression of nature
Abstract
The objective of the article is to analyse the digital landscapes that are reproducing on screens. To do this, it has been studied the history of traditional landscape painting, the development of the term landscape, the diffusion of the image on screens, the irruption of the algorithm and the artificial intelligence. The methodology used was basing on the descriptive and comparative analysis of different cases. It has been analysing the collection of data from texts by landscape specialists such as J. Maderuelo, A. Roger, G. R. Milani combined with the analysis of wallpapers and works by artists such as Magritte, Ansel Adams, Carleton Watkins, Cynthia Daignault, Corinne Vionnet, Joan Fontcuberta and some interviews with the professionals involved. As for the conclusions reached, they revolve around two fundamental ideas: the survival of the classical models of landscape and their transformation into stereotypes aimed at mass consumption.
