Constructivist photography. Considerations on the study of photography today
Abstract
The article proposes to rethink the photographic ontology based on the images and photographic theories
of Russian Constructivism. The main hypothesis is that Constructivism understood the photographic image as a
process with multiple technical possibilities, among them, the possibility of linking the real and the fictional. This
conception allows us to broaden the field of study of current photographic ontology and to reflect on photography
from a little explored perspective, as a practice. The article is divided into three sections. In the first, the theoretical
and contextual limitations of some research on Constructivism are shown. In the second, the reconceptualization of
photography made by the constructivists given the artistic and technical revaluation of the late nineteenth century and
early twentieth century is exposed. In the third section, it explains why the ontological theories of the eighties fail to
define photography and why the study of constructivist photography could collaborate in its study.
