Abstract

In this interview we talked about manual action and architectural representation with the Chilean architect Mauricio Cárcamo. He has been an academic, researcher and/or consultant in various entities such as the University of Chile, the University of São Paulo, the Bolivian Catholic University of São Paulo, the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Studies, among other Latin American institutions. Since 2011 he has raised a line of research linked to embodied cognition in architecture, focusing on the specialized study of the cognitive/enactive link between manual action (manuage) and sensorimotor intelligence involved in project action, its representations, practices and scope in architecture, education, linguistics, semiotics, biology, psychology, neuroscience and philosophy, among others. In 2017 he published, together with various authors, the book/object «CUBOOK. 1200 gramos destinados a discurrir en torno al manoaje», work exhibited in biennials, museums and various conferences. The interview was conducted in La Paz, Bolivia in November 2018, during the Workshop «From problem to action», directed by Cárcamo at the Faculty of Architecture, Arts, Design and Urbanism of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA); and in the architecture career of the Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo (UCB-SP).
