The link-art in social science research: review and modalities

Abstract

In the last decade of the twentieth century, various experimental currents in pedagogical
methods, clinical psychology and social anthropology, mainly, find reciprocal resonances linked by a
critical perspective. This silent revolution in the way of building science is emerging through various
turns (performative, narrative…). Certain social research explores art as a method, while certain art
explores social intervention. The effervescence of this exploratory context ends up overflowing the
traditional classification dualism that divided scientific methods into quantitative and qualitative.
Although a consensus classification has not yet stabilized, the first two decades of the 21st century have
populated the social science research landscape of creative methodological designs, beyond mixed
methods, that use art as a phase or link in the scientific protocol. the main contributions of the practices
studied here to the scientific culture. The main contribution of the work is the review and description
of this spectrum of procedures that incorporate ineffable content such as data, and the extension of the
circle of scientific communication, as well as the reformulation of the relationship of power between
subject researcher-object investigated. Moreover, it is intended to contribute to the systematization of
this conceptual field into three categories: art as a technique to stimulate data production, art as data and
art as a communication and dissemination code.
