Abstract

Antxón Gómez is one of the most distinguished artistic directors in Spain and highly acclaimed in the world for a particularly fruitful collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar. He is responsable for creating visual identities to Pain and glory (2019),The skin I live in (2011),Julieta (2016) or Che: Guerrilla (2008), by Steven Soderbergh. He studied Chemistry, but as fate would have it, has started working in advertising. Throughout his career, he has learned the value of teamwork and the increasingly fragile position of an occupation that is not yet recognized by the general public. At the time of the interview, he was currently going through a period of reflection around his work, exploring the fact that most of the time the spectators are unaware of the great work involved with creating all locations and sets that eventually give the film its unique visual identity. The departure point of the conversation was based on the idea of authorship. What is being an author or artistic director in a movie? Artistic direction often goes unnoticed by the general public.
