The censorship in the plays of Rojas Zorrilla
Abstract
We analyze in this article the evidence of censorship in the comedies of Rojas Zorrilla. We review the manuscripts that present censorship and approval, and analyze each case individually. In the light of preserved materials, we can conclude that in general the censorship was not ruthless with the works of the Toledo playwright, since his works almost always obtained the necessary licenses for representation. Only two of them were forbidden by inquisitorial edict already well into the eighteenth century.
