The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the needs of children, youth and families at risk in the province of Barcelona
Abstract
The aim of the study is to explore the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the needs of vulnerable children and adolescents, detected by the professionals who work for the different services for vulnerable children and adolescents in the province of Barcelona. An ex profeso online questionnaire was answered by 30 non-residential socio-educational care service professionals. The results show that the main areas of development and well-being affected are emotional, social, learning, participation and being heard, rest, movement and activity, and leisure and play. Professionals highlight adolescents as one of the most affected groups by the pandemic referring to social life, education, and psychological areas. The results lead professionals to consider the need to intensify socio-educational mechanisms to bring support in the emotional, technological, educational, and social areas of children’s lives and especially for adolescents who are at risk.
