The experience of being a migrant. A transnational view from Venezuelan childhood in Madrid
Abstract
Venezuela currently faces one of the largest migratory flows that has been seen in contemporary history, and within them are thousands of children displaced from their homes. This article aims to present the main findings obtained from an exploratory study that aimed to highlight the migratory experience of Venezuelan children in Madrid, taking the children themselves as main informants and using transnationalism as a methodological approach. Likewise, the conceptual framework of migrant childhood as a category of analysis and the approach of the Venezuelan context as a reference to the migratory experience of their childhood was explored. The results obtained show the importance of having the voice of children in the story of their own experiences, since by granting them the role of co-builders of their environment, they stand up to their dreams and desires, challenging the adult-centered vision that is usually had in front of them, mainly in migratory contexts.
