Deconstruction of the Romantic Genius Concept in "Isabella of Egypt"
Abstract
Isabelle of Egypt elevates the criticism of the artist’s subject to its climax. The fantastic figures point to the text as an eclectic construct, which culminates the criticism of the subjects of both the genius and the artist in a deconstruction of the original postulate. The juxtaposition of the ideal, which is based on a surface structure, and the criticism that is evoked by the Fantastic on a subtextual level, challenges the creator’s power over his work.Downloads
