Max Reinhardt and the theatrical space: a legacy still taking place
Abstract
Max Reinhardt was one of the most important theater directors and producers of the 20th century, influencing our conception of current theater and implementing a multitude of new techniques and mechanisms that today are considered basic in staging. These innovations are due to a vision of the work closely linked to the space in which it was to be performed, leading to the development of different types of theater buildings. Sadly, these advances are seldom attributed to him, being unknown to a large part of theatrical professionals, especially Spanish-speaking ones. Through a bibliographic search and an analysis of his works, it has been tried to shed light on his contributions and theories regarding theatrical space, differentiating the distinct buildings that he designed. In this way, a first approach to the director in Spanish is produced, providing study material about him, of help to both theater scholars and directors in search of new spatial visions and interaction with the public, leaving the door open to future research on other fields explored by the director.
