Liminal Space and the Figure of the Ghost in "Ese algo que nunca compartí contigo" by Claudia Hidalgo and "El país sin duelo" by Cristian Flores Rebolledo
Abstract
The ghost represents a liminal figure, between life and death, that disturbs space-time by blending the past and the present. The specter embodies an unresolved past, often linked to a family or historical trauma, such as the silence surrounding a violent event. We propose an analysis of Ese algo que nunca compartí contigo by Claudia Hidalgo and El país sin duelo by Cristian Flores Rebolledo. In both works, the ghosts of the past, particularly the disappeared from the Pinochet dictatorship, are addressed through the representation of absence and silence, creating an unsettling atmosphere that disturbs space and time. Thus, these works emphasize the search for memory and identity, confronting the characters with absences and family secrets. Throughout this paper, the aim is to reflect on the performative figure of the ghost, which causes a physical, psychological, and sensory disturbance in the daily lives of the characters.
