Abstract

We offer a critical review of the problem of fascism and local power under Francoism. In recent years, a definition of local Francoist power has been consolidated as a para-fascist or fascistizated local power. However, there is a debate about the continuity or rupture of the political staff. This approximation and debate prevent attention to their political cultures. In the first place, we carry out a bibliographical revision on the debate of the local powers under the Franco regime. Then we point out the main arguments of the new contributions to the study of the intermediate political cadres of the Franco regime. Finally, we propose a line of work that helps to understand aspects that, to a large extent, have been overlooked, such as the role of early Falangism in the local sphere of the dictatorship.
