Music, Education and Ideology by and for Women of the Sección Femenina through the Contents of Y. Revista de la mujer nacional sindicalista and Medina.
Abstract
This work (1) explores the connections among national identity, music and gender during early Francoism and (2) points out the how they were understood as a support and impulse for the Spanish totalitarian regime. To that effect, the publications Y. Revista de la mujer sindicalista (1938- 1945) and Medina (1941-1946) have been analysed and the information obtained has been merged with and compared to that resulting from scientific literature on the issue. The conclusions clarify how the musical activities carried out by the Sección Femenina contributed to the female national and gender identity construction process during the early years of Francoism.Downloads
