Tradition, Agony and Consensus in the Brazilian Geopolitics between 1930 and 1964
Abstract
The main purpose of this article is to discuss the individual and collective intellectual production from the 1930 Revolution to the moment when the Armed Forces took power. It has the intention to clarify the main ideas that prevailed in the period and that would affect the country in a further moment. The methods employed were the historical and institutional analysis, the interpretation of prominent actors and authors and a glance on interactions and/or groups. The main conclusion is that in 1930-1964 Brazilian geopolitics there were two main traditions: it would be possible to distinguish between the “of action” (graduates, “isebianos”, and politicians) and “of word” (engineers, militaries, and diplomats). If a “consensus” reigned inside each of these groups, between them reigned the “agony”, the conflict.Downloads
