Terenci Moix and the Comic World
Abstract
Terenci Moix's work, originally entitled Los «cómics». Arte para el consumo y las formas ‘pop’, first published in 1968 –rescued and expanded by Ana María Moix, his sister, in 2007, under the title Historia social del cómic–, undoubtedly marked a whole generation of comic readers and marked a before and after in comic studies, of which Moix is one of the forerunners. This article aims to shed light on the relationship between Terenci Moix and comics, both as a reader and as a pioneer in their study. From a historical and literary point of view, as well as studying Historia social del cómic, the aim is to propose an approach to the collaborations he undertook with authors linked to underground culture, such as Nazario, as well as magazines of the time such as Bang! in order to demonstrate how the Catalan author valued and absorbed the medium, and how it contributed to convey a very personal vision of the ninth art in relation to camp culture.
