Prosa llatina que fiu... Baltasar Joan Balaguer's participation in the Immaculate Conception contest of 1488 in the city of Valencia
Abstract
This article presents a text by the poet Baltasar Joan Balaguer, submitted to the Purissima Conceptionis Virgo Mariae contest of 1488, sponsored by Ferrando Díeç in the city of Valencia. The text is an unpublished Latin work defending the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, using a series of quotations from the Holy Scriptures, arguments from the Church Fathers, and some personal reasoning. In addition to the transcription, edition, and notes of the text, the article provides a contextualization of the work, focusing on the author and the characteristics of the contest in which it was submitted.
