Bearing in mmd the importance that Lope de Vega gaye to the sonnet as well as the value itself of dialogue in its beginnings, 1 have attempted to examine how the poet used this strophic form to focus on the topie of the night, of long tradition in western poetry, though not falling in the temptation of considering it as lovers'accomplice or as the poet% shelter Now te night will just be seen by Lope de Vega as a path to show us the close relationship between sleep, life and death.
