Abstract

A communicative language teaching approach tends to focus more on interactive oral communication tasks. In the present paper a teaching approach is proposed in which reading comprehension is considered essential as a basis for further exercises such as aural and writing exercises. Having a language instruction at a university level in mind we are obliged to elaborate on the written language. Therefore, the systematic practice of reading comprehension of authentic texts as a basis to further elaborate on vocabulary and syntactic structures with the aim to get the students to read literature related to their field of study and the ability to write in the target language will be emphasized and several reading strategies are suggested.
