Abstract

This paper is based on a model for the production of written texts, published by Didactext Group in 2003. It is a re-elaboration of a three-dimensional model: socio-cognitive, linguistic, and didactic, which is graphically symbolized by three reoccurring concentric circles. The first circle corresponds to the cultural environment. That is, each one of the spheres of the human praxis in which the creator of any written text is immersed. The second circle refers to the production contexts, which include the social, situational, and physical contexts, as well as the audience and the writing medium. The third circle corresponds to the individual. This last circle looks at the role of memory in writing, including motivation and emotions, sociocultural perspectives, and cognitive and metacognitive strategies. Within these strategies, this paper identifies six functional units: access to knowledge, planning, production of text, revision, rewriting and oral presentation.
