Uses and meanings of music in Salamanca's religious practices: A case study of the Convent of Las Dueñas and Hakuna
Abstract
The Catholic Church systematically employs music, and its followers use it as a tool to strengthen their sense of belonging to the group, to sharpen their identity and to enliven their spirituality. In the face of recent social and generational changes, the forms of interaction between music and religion have changed, redefining traditional practices. Based on this approach, this article, the result of the research done, focused on the anthropology of music, is a case study of the musical practices of the Convent of Las Dueñas and Hakuna in the city of Salamanca, whose aim is to offer a critical description of the religious music scene of the city.
