La edición y difusión comercial de la obra de Federico Chueca: un músico de éxito en el Madrid del último tercio del XIX
Abstract
Federico Chueca built up a long career as a composer from 1867 to 1908. His dance music (waltzes, polkas, etc.), as well as Republican hymns and marches composed during the period known politcally as the Sexenio (1868-1874), represent a completely unknown repertory, which is discussed and catalogued in the present article. This corpus of works can also help to correctly understand his later vocal- and stage-music output. Using Chueca as an example of a composer whose success was uninterrupted during the Sexenio and the Restauration in Madrid, this article exmaines the commercialisation and dissemination strategies open to composers of truly popular music in the editorial world of the género chico.
