Discourse Units in Written Texts. Critical review of the state-of-the-art and guidelines for a future proposal
Abstract
´The segmentation of discourse into syntactic, informal, or pragmatic units originates from studies on spontaneous spoken language. However, the criteria enabling such segmentation should also be appliable to written texts. This article critically reviews some models of discourse units and presents some guidelines for a segmentation model applicable to both spoken and written language, aiming to solve some of the issues identified in models designed solely for spoken or for written texts.
