Stylistic neologisms in Spanish sports newspapers: “PN + -azo/ ada”
Abstract
This article focuses on a type of stylistic neologism very frequent in the sports press, specifically the nouns that present the structure “proper noun (PN) + -azo/-ada”. The objective is, first, to determine the role of these neologisms in sports headlines; second, to analyze the relation between the suffixes -azo / -aza, -azo and -ada, to catalog the different values that they contribute and to demonstrate the degree of fixation of some of the terms that they generate. The sample analyzed comes from the headlines of the main Spanish sports dailies (Marca, As, Mundo deportivo and Sport), from 2003 until 2017.Downloads
