Macrosyntax: a proposal on dimensions, units and categories
Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyse how and when the concept of utterance first appears in the Spanish grammar, understanding it as a unit that integrated elements beyond the sentence level. Subsequently, we point out the importance of this unit in the origin of macrosyntax, a discipline which distinguishes two dimensions; utterance structure and utterance combinatory. Finally, we define two basic category types, relevant for macrosyntax -discourse markers and discourse operators- taking into account several examples.Downloads
