Abstract

Reasons for the absence of proposals for non-sexist language in Chinese. In this article we examine what are the reasons why in the Chinese language there are not so many proposals for non-sexist language as in the Spanish language. The analysis is based on a review of the states of studies on linguistic sexism in both languages. In Spain there is a heated discussion about the linguistic sexism and have appeared in recent decades many manuals in order to guide the speakers in the proper use of inclusive language, however, although many Chinese researchers have found out the sexism hidden in the language, proposals for non-sexist language did not appear. The absence is mainly due to the different characteristics of the two languages.
