Abstract

The author of this text analyses the origin, the intertextual nature, and the structure and identity and reader models of the blog as a new and very important phenomenon. The blog is over all a particular practice. Her analysis displays some original features in blogs such as the new temporality inscribed in them, their ability to give expression to intimacy and the individual self, and the possibility of contact and interaction with public spheres. Focusing on women’ s blogs, the author studies how the increasing number of female bloggers has a double face, because it represents a broader possibility of expression and presence, but imitated and restricted in many cases to personal and intimate worlds. Given the huge dimensions of Internet, female blogs suppose a new way of expressing and representing women’s subjectivity, but also implies a complex mixture of personal and public interests and desires and could tend to create an enormous amount of personal expression’s niches poorly interconnected between them and easily controlled, making the “big conversation” of the Internet something much more restricted than what we could presume to be.
